Sports

Sports for boys and girls:
Sports are a great way to get to know people that you don't know very well. They can help you work better as a team and build solid friendships. There are multiple sports that you can play, and a few are:

Basketball- Basketball is a winter sport that involves a lot of running, but is great for staying in shape. You use an orange ball, dribble it up the court, and shoot it into a basket.

Track-Track is a spring sport that involves multi-talented people. There are many different events that are run at each track meet. These different events include: shot put, discus, hurdles, 1500 Meter race, 1600 Meter race, Long jump, high jump, 4x400, open 400, open 200, open 100, 4x200, Distance medley relay, Sprint medley relay, 4x100, 7 flight hurdles, and the 200 meter hurdles.

Cross Country- Cross country is a fall sport for runners. Typically they run on golf courses, and there are hills. There can be a lot of runners in each meet, and the girls run 1, 1.5, 1.7, 2, or 2.7 miles. Advice that can be given is to drink a lot of water, but not before a race. If you have a meet in the morning, it is best to eat something light, like a banana, to get you fueled up. Don't drink water really fast after a race, and be sure you are stretched well. Typically, you are given a popsicle and/or water. To run cross country, you need to be able to pace yourself. Cross country is basically a battle with your mind.

Girls~
Sports are a great to thrive and survive in Middle School. Th
ey are a great way to earn respect and friendships. They build friendships that can last forever, and can help you with life skills. But, for sports to help young women, they have to be open to the help that all your coaches provide [yes, that may mean dealing with practices that you won't like]

Boys~
Sports can be just a helpful to you as they are for the young women in middle school. Just like the girl aspect, sports help earn respect of many people: teachers, coaches, parents, and other young men in your grade.

There are some sports that are left to one sex only. These sports are separated for young men or young women only. That is not to say that young men can't play volleyball, or young women can't play football, but typically it is just young men or women.

Boys:

Football- Football is a contact sport. It involves young men using a football to get a touchdown. The young men use protective gear, because it can be a highly dangerous sport. It is the first sport that you play during the middle school season, and is played in the fall.

Baseball- Baseball is a sport that involves a lot of running and hand-eye coordination. The point of baseball is to score runs, and prevent other teams from scoring runs by fielding. Each team typically has nine players when playing defense. The nine positions are: 1st base, 2nd base, 3rd base, pitcher, catcher, right field, left field, and center field. There are exceptions to the typical nine fielder rule. Two exceptions to the rule are: if one player acquires an injury, and the team doesn't have another player to replace one, then the team would play with just eig ht players. The only difference in the positions would be: instead of left, center, and right fielders, there would only be left-center, and right-center fielders. The last exception is: if a league allowed: a team could play with a rover. A rover is basically just a fourth outfielder. The fourth outfielder would help the original three with fielding.

Girls:

Volleyball: Volleyball is a fantastic sport that has 6 players for each team. Thvolleyball_for_website.jpge teams volley the white ball back and forth over a net. The teams can have different set-ups, but typically each team has at least one setter and two spikers. There are multiple ways to get the ball over the net, and some are: bump, set, spike, and drive.

Softball: Softball is a sport that requires running, fielding, and hand-eye coordination. Just like baseball, there are typically 9 players fielding for each team. All the exceptions for the 9 player rule from baseball exist in softball too.

Sports can determine who you become friends with, and how popular you are among certain groups of people. Sports aren't for everyone, but they are fantastic, and fun to do. Above all, pick a sport that you have an interest in and have a good time with-not just something that all of your friends are doing-
